Inspired by these gifs of Hayao Miyazaki.

A funny thing happened to Haley when she stepped left, rather than right on a humid summer day. She had been running from Sarah, the class bully how had set her sights on Haley; though Haley had no idea why. A simple walk in the warm sun, the cicadas buzzing in the heavy air, had turned to a flight of panic which had lead Haley to first climb a fence, to a wall, and, finally, to a roof, as Sarah and her cronies chased her. Haley was never one from acrobatics but the threat of a beating and having her shopping money taken from her was more than enough motivation.

But then Haley stepped left around a chimney, instead of right. Right would've been the smart way to go. The roof was clear and visible on the right, while on the left the chimney hide the path. Haley wasn't quite sure why she turned left. Maybe it was in the hopes of hiding from Sarah and her friends, maybe it was intuition. Either way, it lead to a four foot gape in between the roofs and Haley had to jump and hope for the best.

Mid-air, Haley wanted to scream at her foolishness. To scream her rage at having to do this. To scream her fear at falling. But then her foot landed on the other building and the world changed.
