Are the Stars shining tonight?
Jun. 15th, 2002 11:04 pmA couple of days ago I had movie theme day for my near and far future.
First I watched "Mr.Mom", then I watched Father of the Bride part 2.
After watching Father of the Bride, I caught myself wondering what skillful thing I can give to my daughter. What I mean is in the movie the father and the daughter used to play Basketball, starting from when she was 3-4. What can I teach my daughter?
My Sister is in town for Papa's Day. Good to have her visiting! We went to Buca Di Beppo's and ate to much food.
Then we went to Barnes and Noble around the corner and I looked for the books I need for my school assignment. Gentle Revolution
While searching for the books or books if I got lucky, there are several in the series, I came across this book called "Every Daughter Needs a Father", which was a book of cool portrait photographs and saying like "Every daughter needs a father to show her what unconditional love is.” And other gems like that. I had to try hard to not cry there in the store…Of course I had to share with
zoe_bat, but after showing her three or four of the pages she wouldn’t let me show her anymore. Guess she thought that one of us being teary in the middle of the store was bad enough. ;]
Then later my dad showed me how to set up the Cha-Ching-Telescope he is loaning me. After we got it all set up, we of course had to test it out. We took a peek at the Moon, Venus and a binary system. Yes my friends Patty I think we need Patty to have a stargazing Patty BBQ or some such soon Patty.
Anyway, it brought me back to a happy childhood space of midnight drives out to the Nevada desert drowning in a sea of stars trying to fish out the constellations and looking for the moons of Jupiter and Orion’s Nebula .
Which made me realize that I can teach my daughter about the stars. About the joy of seeing the moons of Jupiter, the comradely of a few foolish people being up in the cold of the middle of the night to go and look at balls of gas. I’ll be sure to pack hot cocoa, warm blankets, and snacks. Maybe even have a telescope that we can take pictures of what we view. And good star charts of course. ; }
Which just made me think of how I want to get involved in this, Spiral Scouts. I would so have to revamp it though. As it is, its too pastel, and well I can’t think of any other way to say it, new age, granola and wimpy. I happen to have good memories of Boy Scouts. I want my daughter to have a similar experience, but with improvements, such as not having christian centric views of morals and such. I like the idea of the Spiral Scouts, but the execution is so wrong.
Anyway, there is a nice comfy bed with a woman I love in it waiting for me…I go.
