I would suggest 10+ for the age range. There is the one scene I mentioned before with the space spider seeming to eat the main character's father and later there is a giant lunar moth that capturers them and then traps them in a "jar" to be food for its larve. Both of these scenes were not graphic and felt more Flash Gordon than horror story to me but the spawn did not like the spiders.
It is still a very fun read for older peeps though. A think a Steampunk or Jules Verne-esk Flash Gordon is a good way to describe it.
Now to focus on work!
