Pacific Rim thoughts
Jul. 14th, 2013 03:21 pm The short, I loved it. I loved the premise, I loved the characters, I loved the mechs and I loved that I was able to ignore our physics to have some fun. I also loved the Independence Day moment.
Long story, I am ready for a mech movie which treats them as weapons platforms rather than vehicles for fist fights. You don't build a highly advanced hand gun to pistol whip someone. Yes there were some missiles and an energy canon but they weren't used very much. Sword fighting with a container ship was pretty awesome though.
I also loved how the "romance" wasn't the linchpin of the plot. And I have romance in quotes as it could easily be viewed as a friendship much like Clint and Natasha in Avengers.
Loved the scientists as well. OK I think that was all vague enough and I'll edit with a warning for spoilers if they happen in the comments.
