Winter meme part the third
Dec. 21st, 2013 02:55 pm A day late but here anyway. From
ceitfianna : How do you decide which books to read next?
Short answer, what's on my list and what's available on audible.com.
Long answer:
I am always adding books to both my Goodreads account and my audible wish list. I primarily read via audiobook as I have an hour and a half daily commute. I usually spot books via my Goodreads feed from the books my friends are reading, books mentioned here that friends have enjoyed, books quoted or mentioned a lot on Tumblr and books recommended by Audible based on books I enjoyed. I also have a Booklikes account, which is like tumblr for book lovers, but I never seem to go there.
I tend towards Urban Fantasy as I wish the magic in the world was more readily visible, but I also enjoy alternate history, fantasy, near future, sci fi and horror with the occasion side trip into mystery, realistic fiction, biography and non-fiction.
But how do I decide what to read next? Usually it is whether I am enjoying the book I am currently on or not. If I am, I will likely stick with its genre or the next book in the series, if I have it available. If it is proving daunting or challenging to read, I will pick something lighter to read next as a palette cleanser. Or if I find myself rewinding the book as I realize I've missed something, I'll usually move to a different book. I guess it's very much like deciding what to eat for dinner and recognizing what I am in the mood for.
(I still have the next 10 days open for questions if you're interested.)
