possible long post
Jan. 16th, 2018 08:07 am Finished Vallista by Steven Brust and loved it. Not as much as Hawk, but it was nice to see more fo the meta plot and to finally get why necromancy is tied to dimensional gates. I fully admit I am slow sometimes and so having it spelled out was nice.
Started Clive Barker's Great and Secret Show, since I saw he wrote a sequel. I remember loving this when I read it in my twenties but so far (4+ hours in) I am not finding any emotional connections to the story. It is well written and the action is good, I just have no personal stakes in what's happening. If the book wasn't 20+ hours long, I'd just trudge through it, but at this point I am wondering if it's worth the effort.
I've been writing a fair bit of Izana and Knights of Sidonia's next bits of canon. The next few episodes are pretty easy as Izana doesn't do much. After episode 5, things will pick up. So far I am liking my methods for writing the canon bits, which has been to watch the episode, decide on one scene to focus on, and then write up as much of what I remember or want to expand, from memory and then only look to canon for anything I know I missed or wasn't clear on.
Weird racist prejudice I realized I've internalized, I have trouble taking some accents seriously and those accents usually are described as "urban". I will have to keep this in mind when I want to dismiss a podcast because the speaker has a clear Hispanic or African-American accent and make myself give them a chance.
Now, back to my masala chai.
