Work has been nutty and intense with lots of projects and things, which has been draining...although I am not sure if my creative drain is also maybe Future Fight, since it takes a fair bit of time and I keep wanting to make things more me in the game. Like, I am struggling with making teams with all the bonuses and with making teams that have the most long term potential.

It might be time to step back...though I think I've mostly settled on things now.

In other news, I've been hankering for some Weird Western stories. Tried out Charlene Harris' An Easy Death, which was okay. More plot driven than character driver, and to be honest the weird wasn't that strong. Which to be fair could be me. The world was interesting though. Basically AU with the USA basically gone as a nation. The North is now Britannia (with the UK having taken it over), the South is Dixie and seems to be what is left of the Confederacy. Some of the Northern Midwest is taken over by Canadian expansion, Texas and Oklahoma have been lumped into on nation state (Texoma), the rest of the South West is part of Mexico, and California and some of Oregon is the Holy Russian Empire, created by an escaped Czar Nicholas and his family after the fall of the USA and the decimation of the Spanish flu. Story takes place between Mexico and Texoma, but there are two main characters who are from the HRE and are Gregories, i.e. wizrds, called such because of Gregory Rasputin.

Currently reading Make Me No Grave by Hayley Stone, which I am liking more, though there's still not a whole lot of weirdness. There are magic users, though it's pretty rare I guess?, and one main character is a 'flesh witch', which is basically a healer though she can do more than heal with she has a mind. I think I'm enjoying this more as the characters are the main driving force in this and they don't seem so cardboard cut out.

Next will be Boneyard, Seanan McGuire's addition to the Deadlands novels. Very much looking forward to this as I know Seanan has my level of weird.

From reading these, I think I have a Weird Western brewing in my brain. Need to get some notes out before I forget them.
