So this weekend I got to see both The Muppets and Hugo.

The Muppets was very good. I'd place it with Muppets Take Manhattan as far a quality. The dance/music numbers were fun and the little joke/puns were good. The cameos didn't really warm up for me until around the middle of the film. In fact the film itself didn't start working for me until about 20 minutes in as the first bit is all new characters. Still, it was nostalgic without being trite. They even managed to keep Jack Black from being too Jack Black believe it or not. I do think the story of why the muppets lost touch with each other could have been more fleshed out. 3 Frogs out of 4 pigs.

Hugo was phenomenal. I saw it in 3D and it was my first exposure to modern 3D. The 3D was not gimmicky at all, in other words gears didn't fly out at you just cause they could. The director used the 3D to add extra dimension to the film, adding depth to the back ground rather than having thing fly at you. Considering it was directed by Scorsese, I'm not too surprised and I hope other directors take a cue from his use of the technology. The story was nice and did spend a lot of time idolizing the early days of movies. In fact a lot of criticism I'd read before the movie talked about how it's a tribute to old movies and not much else but I disagree. I felt the film tribute fit the characters and by daughter and her BFF who have read the book said the film history is part of the book though not as much of a focus as in the film. They both loved the film however. 4 cogs out of 4.

And now the blah...I seem to be getting sick and though work is slow I don't feel like doing anything. Hopefully it will pass soon or at least some music and tea can perk me up.
