Lots of things

It's been a morning of random thoughts and now that it is lunch I shall try and capture some of them...this might be long.
So as I've mentioned here and there I had a great time. Spent the whole week at the beach in Capitola, which is right next door to Santa Cruz for those not familiar with the Monterey Bay. Weather was nice, not to hot (80 was the highest) and not too windy the whole time. We were very fortunate since this week it seems California has decided it's Spring and we need rain. Here's a picture of the view from the time share we stayed at (with a weird blue filter my Nexus had going on) and another without the filter. I'd have a lot more pictures if the Nexus had a rear facing camera like the iPad.
I did spend a lot of time indoors since I discovered the Sarah Beauhall series but I did get out some. Tuesday I went out with the kids to boogy board, mostly wading in the water to cool off and keep them away from some rocks. They had a blast and I never once thought of all the evil, toothy or tentacled things that were below the waves. I need to get some swim shoes for next year as I swear I found every jagged rock in the water to step on. I also need to remember to put sunscreen on my feet as I got pretty badly burned. I now have lovely tanned feet with a pale chevron pattern where the straps of my flip flops were.
Hid the next few days to recover from the bad sunburn, i.e. I read. I did go for a walk with the wife to a nearby Mall and helped her decide on a new swim suit and spotted lots of kick ass Vans for Her Ladyship, which were had the next day.
Thursday we went Wharf fishing which meant chasing pigeons and eating junk food if you were 10 and baiting hooks and detangling lines if you were a grownup. Her Ladyship did catch a small rock cod (which we threw back) and I accidentally hooked a pigeon. Which I then had to reel in, the poor thing, as I wasn't going to introduce a jibline of hooks into the environment let alone leave the pigeon to its fate. I think it's called a jib though Google is giving me wrong results. Basically its a line of about 5 hooks that have reflective or brightly colored material that you attack to your line. And just to make sure, I did get the bird unhooked and recovered the line.
All and all a good vacation and desperately needed, even if I didn't get out into the burning sun and gritty sand.
Looking forward to the Creepy Doll plot though I realized Anton could get in trouble with Security for how he handles the clean up. He's too used to working for the Nightwatch and no having to coordinate with any other agency. Fortunately the Doll isn't sentient so I don't think he'll break any of the big three rules of Milliways.
With the pups I am playing with from my new canon, I think it's a good idea for me to take some stock of recent voices instead of just dropping them in favor of the newest thing. Plus, I have a few more thoughts on the SB pups I'm looking at.
Nolan: Still love him but I haven't watched Defiance in a few weeks now. Last I saw was the razor rain episode and it really put me off. Nolan accidentally "kills" Irisa's spiritual/racial guru/father, Irisa turns on Nolan for said guru/father, and I'm just nervous about the rift this is going to cause them. I also am not too happy with the nanotech explanation. I still haven't let go of Nolan but I need to catch up and see what they are doing to my baby.
Onto the dragons. I don't think I am going to pursue Frederick Sawyer from the Sarah Beauhall series. He is a glorious character but ultimately he doesn't care for life beyond his kith and kin and in fact prefers to play with those below him. He something of a bully now that I really look at it, a very refined and potent bully but still a bully.
Nidhogg on the other hand, is not. While she does see humanity as animals and favored pets, she cares about them in her lucid times. She also hoards knowledge and people while Frederick hoards power and influence. I do like how she sounds in my head in her thread with Charles and can see her in Milliways much better now.
And onto Sarah Beauhall herself. I definitely have a voice as the thread I have with Tiwa is proving and it is pretty clear though I'm still fine tuning. I am not sure how her story would work with Milliways though. In canon she never does any research into her new world and in fact avoids it, which is an honest reaction to getting into something over your head but with the gods and folk in Milliways, I can't see her not finding out about things no matter how hard she tries. Then again I can use what she learns in Milliways to help out canon or have her ignore it thinking it only applies to other words.
