I must take a moment and suggest a very entertaining book to you all, Johannes Cabal, the necromancer by Jonathan L. Howard. It's a little like Charles Adams writing in Christopher Moore's style. It is witty, macabre without being gory, twisted, funny and reads at a good pace. I would easily put it in a category with Neil Gaiman.

As the title suggests the story centers on Johannes Cabal who sold his soul to learn the secrets of Necromancy from Satan. At the beginning of the book Johannes has decided he needs his soul back. He has been having trouble with some of his spells and is convinced, in a very scientific manner, that the lack of his soul is the problem. Thus he travels to Hell and makes a wager with Satan to get his soul back.

I'm about half way through the book and loving it. The characters are amazingly simple and complex. I suspect Johannes has already had some character development but it is hard to tell as he is so coldly logical and inhuman. The time period is difficult to pin down. It is definitely after one of the world wars but as to which is it unclear. I am guessing it is the second but that could easily be because I have trouble imagining the first.

Anyway, pick up the book or add it to your to read list if you like Neil Gaiman, Christopher Moore or Charles Adams. I do not believe you will be disappointed.
