So I saw The Last Airbender last night and didn't hate it. Couldn't say I liked it but it wasn't as bad as I had expected. It was sort of like  M. Knight took a blood sample from the original series, spun it and used the red blood cells instead of the clear stuff to make the movie.

The opening sequence (Aping the opening sequence of the animated series with real people) was neat but awkward somehow. In fact a lot of the choreography was telegraphed and awkward. The bending was okay though the water bending kept looking like they had it barely under control. Maybe if they hadn't shown the same effect when Katara was failing to water bend at the start of the movie? In the series they were able to show water being mailable yet obviously under complete control. In the movie the top half of the water would often be completely shaped but then the bottom half would be collapsing.

The race fail was distracting as well. It's almost like M.Knight was trying so hard to prove he won't cast based on race. And why the Fire Nation, who seemed to live in a temperate climate, were dark skinned while the Water Nation, who lived in arctic climes had pale skin, I can not know.

It was also very disjointed how they crammed a full season into 103 minutes. They could have chosen which episodes to include much better.

And poor Momo and Apu were so downplayed, as was Iroh really.

And no cabbage merchant!

ETA: It's Eye-roh not ee-Roh and Ang not ong.
