So last Sunday my daughter was able to ride her bike without training wheels, with no one holding the bike upright and was able to pedal a good 100 yards or so. This was downhill but she did do it once on a flat surface. Then, back at home, she tried it on the sidewalk again and lost her mojo.

Monday she got back on the bike and road it for a good mile and a half with a rest stop about halfway. Yesterday she and her mother road for nearly four hours.

I remember on Sunday watching her ride away from me and feeling so proud of her as getting to this point has been very hard for her. Then a little voice in my head said, "This is the start" by which I am sure it meant this is the start of her growing and moving away from being dependent to being independent and I couldn't help but feel a little melancholy with my pride.

I am a sentimental old fool.
