I love when quotes turn into epiphanies.

Saw this on Tumblr:

So there is a scene where Andrea breaks down crying due to Kate's faith and kindness. Andrea covers her face to hide the tears and Kate does her best to ignore them until Andrea gathers herself. I didn't quite get it until I read that Lemony Snicket quote as I was all, "What sort of friend doesn't offer comfort?" But it is all clear now.
