 Thoughts after watching the newest Days of Future Past clip, if Hank is an ass to Raven, I am officially taking him AU. He is supper smart and would've learned from the first movie. Yes, the clip doesn't show him being an ass or anything, just him flying a plane, but things are mixed up enough, I still worry. His mannerisms seem the same as well, despite it having been ten years.

But we do seem to have a explanation for how Charles is walking.

o.O Yeah, Charles is going to be AU, I don't buy him doing that. It makes no sense.

Yeah, he doesn't strike me as one who sees their body as themselves; not with his telepathy. The loss of his legs would be a challenge but not one he would give up his mutation to overcome. I can see losing Raven and Erik being upsetting but I also don't see him throwing punches.

I am sure it will be an interesting story, just not so much our story. I know, at least, in my head Hank has developed a lot more than what they've shown so far.

ETA: And Erik crumpling a plane mid-flight is just suicidal.

Yes and also giving up his identity as a mutant and way to connect to other mutants. He knows how key it is to have other people who get you. I mean he's helped people through great trauma. It makes me angry to see his character changed so fundementally. I know the movie will be well acted as that's clear from the clips, but it frustrates me.

Honestly this reminds me of fix-it fics I've read which also miss the point of Charles.

I also have a hard time with how raw everything feels despite it having been ten years? If Hank were left to his own devices, I could believe it but Charles wouldn't let that much hurt fester. I could believe it being brought to bear after having not seen Erik in so long but the ragged state Charles is in says he's been hurting for a while. Unless the ragged state and raw hurt is tied to not having his powers anymore as well as having lost Raven and Erik?

I hate the idea that Charles needs to be "fixed". Just like I don't relish Hank being able to shift between Beast and human. Part of his character growth, to me, is being locked into his worse fear and not only overcoming it, but owning it.

Yes, exactly, if this was maybe five years after, it would make more sense. I mean a touch more sense in terms of the emotions. I mean just going from the end of XMFC, the change doesn't fit.

I feel bad that all of my initial wariness from the earliest set pictures is coming true. I wanted this movie to surprise me and I don't think it will.

I think going into it with the POV of it being AU will help greatly. ;P

I'm still going to hold out until I actually see the film before deciding how much to scrap.

It will, but from all that I've seen, this Charles and mine reallys aren't the same man. Sorry to grumble so, Charles just seems to have gotten a lot of alterations and that clip hit a lot of buttons for me. I've come across a number of fix-it fics and it becomes a thing to have him walking which bothers me.

I don't get the need to "fix" Charles. I feel like his disability is part of who he is and an important visual clue for how cerebral he is. Even when the comics give his legs feeling again, it never feels right.

To be honest, I was hoping his walking was an exosuit of some kind Hank built for him. Oh well.

Yes, that exactly and his telepathy and being a mutant is so important to who he is. Why would he give that up since it clearly didn't actually help? I don't trust them to make sense of it. I think I need to go write fic or something.

You know, I think Charles and Sean are the only ones who were shown to not have any problems or hangups with their mutations; well, maybe Darwin but we saw so little of him, it's hard to be sure.

Well, my headcanon is that Charles didn't talk about his but its clearly he feels a lot of other's pain. But yes, its a different sort of issue than what the others dealt with and he tends to not put himself first. You've read my fic, so know my take on the cost of his mutation.

I can see him making some selfish choices out of pain right after but this is giving up who he is is too much. I could see him trying risky things as he is a scientist but this isn't him. Professor X is one of the few wheelchair bound heroes like Oracle, his power is compassion and intelligence and helping others understand themselves. I don't see that man in this clip.
