The return of Random Thoughts theater.

On Days of Future Past:
I am getting more and more ill at ease about this movie. I am not sure if I will see it in the theater but I am sure I will see it at some point. In no particular order, I am concerned with what I am seeing of the characterizations, with the accusations of Singer's actions in regards to an underage person, and now I am hearing of Fassbender being abusive to an ex-GF. Accusations are always challenging as on one hand, innocent until proven guilty, on the other you can't ignore the possibility this person did something horrible.

On Lady Trent:
App approved, yay! Likely to EP today with her as a young child. Funny thing, I noticed her young PB is in another movie called Copperhead, and is in her late teens therein, which is perfect for the Isabella (the future Lady Trent) who goes adventuring in the world as she is only 16 when she does so. Very tempting to shift the elder PB but I like the costuming from Murdoch Mysteries, so I'll likely stick with Georgina Reilly, even if she is a few years too old.

It's funny but when I first read the book, I realized the author is very vague on details such as racial features. Thus I tried to imagine something outside of the English norm and pictured Scirlanders (her native land) being akin to Indians in skin tone and coloring. Alas, in the second book, Isabella makes a comment about her pale skin not being up to the heat of the Africa-like nation she visits. Standard English it is then.

On comics:
I spent a fair bit of the weekend reading from Marvel's Digital Unlimited and realized how great a deal it is. I may be able to scale back my monthly Marvel habit a fair bit if I keep in mind I can likely read series later through MDU.

On the Constantine trailer:
Looks good. Also looks like they are taking things much more from the movie than the comics but I can work with that. Only thing not working is John's white shirt; it is too clean and starched. It should be off shit and rumpled, as if he slept on a bench in it. Actually, all of his clothes should look worn and have stains.

You can even get that "new comic" feeling by reading comics as they are released on MDU!

(Also: pale-skinned south Asian? Not all pale people are Caucasian.)

Especially since I've put blinders on to keep me from getting hooked on new series! With the subscription I can read anything they have! I wish Dark Horse and Image had something similar.

(A very good point! I would feel more comfortable with Victorian or Edwardian era clothing though, which is easier to find on English folks. I fully own my laziness.)

Yeah, I don't plan on seeing Days of Future Past right away for all of these reasons. I knew about the Fassbender stuff from another time, I forget where it came up. I can admire his acting work but not someone that I like in the same way I like James McAvoy who seems like a pretty decent guy. The Bryan Singer stuff is awful and from the articles I've read, probably not that odd for Hollywood, its a messed up industry.

In terms of the movie as I said in the DE, the amount of stuff they've put out leading up to it has made me uncomfortable and wary. I look at how The Winter Soldier had a much more subdued hype machine and it was a great movie. All the lead up makes me think it will be a mess so I'm sticking to reblogging pretty actors and will take what I can get from the movie.

Oh and I was thinking of tagging Lady Trent with one of mine or Ivan's EP is open if you're up for tagging her out. Your enjoyment is making me want to add those books to my to-read list. I remember reading mixed reviews when they came out.

And I have no idea of what's going on at the moment on Tumblr.

The whole marketing scheme seems to be "HEY OVER HERE!!!!! WE'VE GOT A MOVIE! IT'S COOL AND UNIQUE!"

I'm tempted to tag Ivan with Hank but his voice has been funny since the DoFP stuff. As for wee Lady Trent, I'd love a Jane Austin at some point. I can see her being an inspiration for what a woman can do in their similar cultures. Or TUmnus could be interesting. I do plan on aging her fairly quickly as she only spends two or three chapters as a child.

The books are great, though not flawless. The biggest problem I can think of is that every good thing in her life comes from male patronage of some sort; her father, her husband, an Earl she impresses with her knowledge of dragons. It is a sign of her times but this is a fantasy world, I don't see why she couldn't have gained some things on her own or from some eccentric Widow or something.

One bit I do love is how she criticizes her younger self for how she treats her first foreign culture and a retainer of the aforementioned Earl who is low born.

Oh, and the dragons. DRAGONS! Plus the early science. It's like Darwin with dragons or something.

Yes, that's it exactly with the movie. It feels like they're going look, look at all the neat backstory we created but it seems like too much. In a good book or movie with great backstory, its wonderful to know its there because its the backbone of it. Like Pacific Rim, they created a world which feels real and for Days of Future Past, it truly feels like they're having to prove, look it makes sense. Almost as if they're defending it before it comes out.

I'm up for anyone for Ivan as he's been loud of late and Jane and Lady Trent could work. She's quiet at the moment but I bet I can get her voice at some point.
