And how did I never pick up that there were Arthurian tones?!?! I am kicking myself for not pushing through the first chapter the first time I picked this up. =]
Now I kind of want to reread these books. I don't remember if I only read the first one or if I read the second as well. I know I loved the take on Faerie and Shakespeare and Marlowe.
I think what I love about it so far is how well she weaves together several different mythologies. Faerie and Shakespeare, as you mentioned, Arthurian, magi, dragons...and she does it all while being respectful of the sources.
I also love the fact the Merlin is a POC and queer. =)
I am only on chapter 5 now, so I am sure my favorite things will change.
ETA: It's also kind of reminding me of War of the Oaks and Changeling and Mage.
