So those thoughts on pups and comfort levels I mentioned this morning.

First things first, let me say off the bat that I apologize for any misuse of terms in the following thinking out loud. My exposure to queer terms is limited to Tumblr posts and things I see online. I like to think those sources are good ones, but I also acknowledge that my straight, white male filters can distort my understanding of these things.

So what am I talking about here? Well, with my online roleplaying, I've always kept things pretty much PG13 for my comfort level. Part of that is my own feelings of how well I can write the steamy stuff and part of that is the fact I am married and to write things out with another person could be seen as sexting someone not my wife and that just feels wrong. And yes, I realize this is likely prudish of me but there it is.

The other thing I wanted to look at is that I am now playing three male characters who have show (either specifically in canon or suggestively in canon) that they are attracted to males as well as females. Simply put, this is not something I grok. Yes, I can look at a male and see attractive but I don't feel it. I can easily relate to lesbians as I can feel attractiveness to women, but the male thing just doesn't click with me and to try and write that leaves me feeling a little nervous.

Ethan is definitely bi. He had just as much passion with Dorian as he did with Brona. I think he also had just as much tenderness, even though they cut the morning after scene which we had seen hints of in promos.

Tybalt has loved both males and females, and is currently in love with another female. Of course, he is fae and is shaking his head at me at the need for humans to name and identify rather than just accept. Things like sexuality really don't seem to be part of faerie society.

Sam Wilson is another who is likely bi, but in my head I am thinking he is more pansexual. While this was never explicitly presented in Winter Soldier, he was giving Steve and Natasha equally adoring looks throughout the film. I'm honestly still a bit hazy on what the difference between pan and bi is, but I'm working with the idea that Sam is attracted to personalities rather than male or female; i.e. the person attracts him regardless of gender.

And since I am here and looking at this, the new pups that are currently on the back burner, which funny enough, all seem to be queer to some degree:

The Luidaeg: Another fae from the same world as Tybalt. Going by canon, she has only been in a serious relationship with a woman and it is also mentioned in another short story that she likely prefers women. Then again, she is affected--to the point of distraction--by Tybalt in tight leather pants. I guess maybe bi with a preference for women? Or, she's definitely a lesbian who can just appreciate a nice ass regardless of gender.

Antoine Triplett: I can see a case being made for him finding Fitz attractive but I don't know. He definitely had chemistry with Simmons and I could buy the chemistry with FItz but I think he is just being himself and kind. Assuming he is treating Fitz the way he is in season 2 because he is attracted to him strikes me as being sleazy.

Sabine Wren: No hints to her preferences. Only evidence is her not being interested in Ezra.

Sarah Beauhall: Lesbian, totally and completely.

I guess the final result of this is that I need to keep in mind my character's preference if opportunities for romance come along. Ignoring their queerness or treating males they are attracted to as females (even if it's just in my head) is tantamount to white-washing the Avatar cast. It is not something I will allow myself to do.
