bjornwilde: (Asajj Ventress)

Since I seem to be in an Asajj Ventress frame of mind—and not a threading one—as I work, some thoughts about her and how I might play her.

She definitely is an anti-hero at the point I will be bringing her in; the end of Season 5 after she has been betrayed by Dooku and becomes a bounty hunter. I'm tempted to play with the idea of her having a no killing...thing? Clause seems the wrong word but ethic doesn't work for her either, but I think it will be something inspired by Ahsoka. As I play her I don't want to fall into the trap of making her a good guy. She is anti-social and cold. She rages and she has a cruel streak. To not play them would be a disservice to the character. At the same time, she has grown and changed from the Sith acolyte. If nothing else, her interactions with Obi-Wan (helping him fight and escape Maul and Savage) and Ahsoka (helping her find the true terrorist in the Jedi Temple bombing despite Ahsoka having a bounty on her head) prove that she is changing.

But then the descriptions of the upcoming Dark Disciple book suggest she is still bent on getting her revenge on Dooku.

I think if I bring her into Milliways soon, I will have to play her as a bounty hunter, still trying to figure out her place in the galaxy. Once the book is out though and I see where canon takes her, I do want to steer her towards founding her own group of Nightsisters. I am imagining a sort of dark Themyscira on some planet as Asajj finds females that are being oppressed, frees them, and brings them to the planet for safety. Perhaps at some point they convince her to train them to fight for themselves and she finds some that are force sensitive.

Of course, this does make me look into what are Asajj's goals. When she is Dooku's assassin, being strong or deadly is all she seems to care about. After his betrayal, revenging herself on him seems her motivation. Now? Not sure. An interesting bit from Dooku and Asajj's first meeting in the animated 2003 Clone Wars series (the cartoon and not the CGI) keeps occurring to me. Upon meeting Dooku, Asajj claims she is a sith and Dooku replies, with a laugh, "You are no sith. The Sith have no fear and you have fear within you."

This makes me wonder if she just wants to stop being afraid maybe? Definitely something to consider.

I also think she longs for a home. She was taken from her people when she was a toddler, then lost the man who bought her, then was found by a jedi who trained her. The flash backs to her jedi master are shown as the only happy times she has ever had. Then he is killed and her grief and rage cast her into the Dark Side. Next she finds Dooku and becomes his acolyte before he betrayers her by his master's orders (Sidious was fearful that she was becoming too powerful and would disrupt the rule of two). She finds her way back to the Nightsisters (the people who had sold her for their safety when she was a child) and found a home for a bit before Grievous showed up to decimate them, killing all but Asajj. Thus Asajj loses another home and family.

It is interesting to note that Asajj acted almost warm to the Sisters she spoke with, something she never did before in the Clone Wars series (CGI now).

Also, Asajj is seeming pretty Ace to me. I know she kisses and sort of flirts with clone troopers and with Kenobi, but I feel like those are psychological attacks and not real desire on her part. Don't know why, but there it is. At the same time though, I'm tempted to play with her passions. I mean Sith are all about personal freedom right? Why is that always expressed as being aggressive and bad ass? It could be good for Asajj to live a little, you know?
