Loved having Walther as one of the main characters and loved his past and the reveal. Trans characterization done right, imho.
I loved this book, though it did end up feeling like it is a set up for the next few books. I am fine with this and the book stands well on it's own. I think it feels like a set up simply because it followed The Winter Long which had so many shake ups.
And speaking of shake ups, HOLY SHIT. Walther developed the cure for elfshot! This is huge. This means Rayseline can come back, but perhaps more importantly, this means the False Queen and Evening can come back as well. All it would take is one loyal party to steal the cure, although Evening might be a bit difficult to get to, if memory serves.
ETA: Oh, and Nolan can also be woken. Which makes me wonder if Arden would give him the throne since she is so uncomfortable with it.
