Thoughts that keep bugging me about my new problematic favorite, The Magicians.
I really don't like them confiscating Quentin's antidepressant medication because, "You're not depressed, you've just been looking for magic." Even if this were a correct statement, the side effects of said medication can be bad. It also sends a terrible message to both those who need antidepressants and those who don't.
I love Eliot. He is my new favorite and I love his fabulous self. But I hate his line, "Magic doesn't come from talent, it comes from pain." Implying a magician is able to do magic because they feel pain more acutely is BS and insulting to everyone else on the planet. Talk about entitled crap. If I ever play him seriously, I will be altering that line.
Aside from that, I am loving the show. It is just as awkward and messy as the books, but you don't have to see the story unfold from Quentin's self-focused and entitled POV. =]
