I've been thinking about things since the Ghost In the Shell photo and the Doctor Strange trailer. About white washing of characters and what we can do about it mostly. I know it's wrong. At least in my world, that's a given, but boycotting the films, especially if it happens to be a story you really want to see, doesn't seem as effective as we might think. Yes, the powers that be don't make as much money on the film if a boycott works (see Pan) but with obscure properties like Ghost or Doctor Strange, the powers that be can easily say "These type of films don't work" instead of, "We should cast ethnically appropriate actors".

So where does that leave us, the almighty consumer? I think what we need to do, more than boycotting (and my all means boycott if that is your wish) is to spend money on films with POCs and WOC as leads. Make the powers that be notice these films made money. Costing money isn't something they pay close attention to outside of risk taking. But making money? That they will notice and more importantly, lead to taking risks for those money making movies.
