XM: Apocalypse spoilers

I swear this is the first movie out of all of them where I didn't roll my eyes at Erik, or want to smack him in the back of the head for being a diva. I honestly feel out of all the movies, this one had the most character growth for him. The line, "No, I betrayed them" was amazing.
Also, I really feel like Peter didn't tell Erik he was his son because he saw how fragile Erik was. Sure, fear of his father rejecting him could have been a motivation, but Erik looked like he was about to break and Peter saw it. ymmv
I loved that Peter got involved and didn't feel the need for great impassioned speech or poignant scene. Sometimes heroics are quiet things.
I can't wait for the digital release so I can see the mall scene which was cut.
And could that plane be more like a quinjet?
I seriously don't think Singer knows what to do with Hank. I loved Hank's line, "Hope for the best, prepare for the worse." That is exactly what my head voice is like. I think whomever choreographs Hank's fight scenes in the future really needs to think about the fact that he basically has hands on his feet and would use them. He needs to be the bouncing Beast. I'm head canonning a mix of wrestling and joint locks for his fighting style, as well as savate.
Also, more Hank-tech in the next one. Hank should be building!
I loved the kids! Though Jubilee was seriously under used. I understand most of her scenes were cut, but the focus on her in the scenes that remain just feels weird now.
Loved Raven's nod to the comics for her costume at the end. I do think the other characters should add some color to theirs. ETA: Ok, looks like i was so dazzled by Raven's costume, I missed that the others had color as well.
I loved that Charles came clean to Moria about taking her memories of Cuba. I do hope there are some consequences though.
I like Sofie Turner as Jean, but I wish she'd learn to act as a different person. She does emotions well, but it felt like Sansa Stark being Jean Grey to me.
I think the golden ration for a good X-Men film is the inclusion of Nightcrawler. I love this kid and how fish out of water he was, as well as how enthusiastic about America he was.
Didn't get much of a feel for Storm, but I like the glimpse of her past and I like the actress. I just think the writing didn't give her much chance to shine.
Same with Psylock. I guess being controlled by a god-like mutant interferes with your story.
Caliban was a nice touch.
Oh, and I am convinced it's after this movie that Hank stops taking the serum and is furry full time.
Post-credits: Likely a set up for X-23, if the rumors of Wolverine3 are to be believed. Don't see how that can have a bearing on the next X-men movie though since W3 is so far in the future. Who knows..
Thoughts for the next movie: I think they should do Genosha. In the comics, Genosha is a nation that uses mutants as slaves and was a pretty obvious parallel to South Africa and Apartheid.
Erik can show up at the mansion seeking help, but due to sovereignty, Charles turns him down. Erik runs off on his own and maybe a student or two joins him. Or maybe Genoshian military kidnaps some students. Or maybe Charles agrees to speak with the UN and they allow him a team to observe and report back.
However it happens, the UN gets involved, Genoshians maintain their independence from the UN, the X-men use the excuse of kidnapped team members to enter the country and then team up with Erik who's leading a mutant revolution. X-men try their best to stay out of revolution, just there to free their team mates, etc, but get pulled in anyway.
Meanwhile, at the border of Genosha, Hank is left with a political hot potato and needs to a)keep himself from being arrested, and b) keep the Genoshians from enlisting the UN forces to stop the rebellions. This would be a perfect lead into Hank the politician and the film can end with Hank leaving the school to work with the government, while Erik's rebellion succeeds and the first mutant nation comes to being.

Date: 2016-06-19 04:43 pm (UTC)UN General: I will need to get clearance.
Hank: Correct me if I am wrong General, but by accepting UN aid, any nation must also abide by UN laws, such as those outlining humanitarian rights and standards? And I do believe mutants are defined as human yes? Then by all means, get involved.
Genoshian Rep: Genosha withdraws its demand and invitation for UN aid.
