bjornwildeWorld building for the Gilded Age with magic when my shadow brain asks, what if the Manifest Destiny/Western Expiation never happened in this world's US?
Shit. I'm going to have to do some research now.
ETA: Looking at maps of the time has made me realize something else I also need to consider. If the native people of what we call the USA mange to repel the USA expansion West, why wouldn't the native peoples of Mexico and the Southwest have kept the Spanish out? Or won their independence from a foreign power, i.e. Spain and/or France? Similarly, did the French have a big enough presence in the US to have claimed the area defined in the Louisiana purchase.
