Aug. 7th, 2016 07:42 pmJust came back from seeing Suicide Squad and I liked it. It does suffer from horrible editing during the first half of the movie. You can tell where they cut time to make a shorter film. Either that or they just felt like doing exposition on fast forward.
More behind the cut in case it's spoilery.
Not sold on the gentrified, gang banger Joker. It was an interesting spin on the character, and Leto was convincing but I am not convinced that was the Joker he was playing. ymmv.
Slipknot was a waste and was only used as a prop. I say waste as I understand the actor is really good and he ended up with few lines and just randomly being thrown into the team. I just realized Slipknot fails De Connick's sexy lamp test; i.e. his character purpose in the story could've been accomplished with a sexy lamp.
Didn't find Boomerang that amusing. Katana was dry as well.
This really was Harley and Deadshot's flick, with Waller making a strong foundation. Viola was amazing as Waller.
I wanted to know more about Deadshot and wish we had more of him, tbh.
The Joker and Harley's relationship didn't make my skin crawl, oddly enough. I would've loved for her to admit it was not a healthy one though. Or maybe not a good one for her. I doubt she could recognize healthy.
And I have to say it...Escape From New York called, they want their plot back.
Still, I had a good time and enjoyed the film.

Date: 2016-08-08 01:09 pm (UTC)I almost think Leto would've been better as Black Mask, then Joker. I didn't get any hint of humor (black, gallows, or puns) at all from Leto and that is an important part of Joker, imho. But if they did Black Mask, it wouldn't make sense for Harley.
ETA: An odd realization I just had in listening to Pink Floyd's The Wall. I had read somewhere that supposedly they based the Joker visuals on David Bowie, which didn't seem right to me. Then it hit me that this Joker is much more Pink when he goes neo_nazi than Bowie.
