Hallos...been a while. This weekend was...fun but challenging. I was on the mend from a cold that was pretty potent and the Teen got the baby project from her psychology class, so for the weekend we had a wee cylon baby to care for. And wouldn't you know it, we got a fussy one. It would just cry for no reason and fuss about for about half an hour. The Teen, poor girl, didn't get much sleep. As a parent, I have a hard time seeing how this would work for those who do the project during the week. Like the kids have classes beyond yours dude, and teens need sleep. Your scared straight exercise isn't all that.
Anyway, the real reason I wanted to write today....
Lately I've been missing playing a magic user in
milliways_bar . I do realize this is kind of silly as I have trouble playing consistently but I want!
I've thought of playing Vlad Taltos from the Dragerian books, or Elayne Kaverian, from the Craft Sequence books. I love both of these guys but I don't think I'm the person to play them. Vlad has way too much canon for my causal play and I don't think i can pull off a powerful woman like Elayne. Like her force of personality is nearly godlike and she is wicked clever/intelligent.
Current thoughts are three fold for possible magic users:
Kady Orloff-Diaz, from the Magicians TV show. Bold as brass and a cutthroat bitch, I just love her. The only draw back is playing in her world, which kind of treat magic like a drug, which I get but I don't really know if I want to play another addict type of character.
Amelia Heartstriker, from the Heartstriker series. Another potent woman and dragon. Big advantage is playing with planar travel and hosting possible quests through D&D's Manual of the Planes and/or Spelljammer. Drawback is she is canonically an alcoholic, which is why I stopped playing her before. I could tone that down though. I also want to find a new PB.
Farideh, from the Brimstone Angels series. Tiefling warlock who nevertheless is a good person. I love her personality in the books and she comes from the Forgotten Realms world, so she hits my D&D nostalgia button. Not sure if Milliways would break her canon though. Spells would be limited to infernal styled ones, at least until she learns new ones in canon, which seems to be happening. Also, her magic is based on her link to the devil she has a pact with, which might not work within Milliways. Things to think about. But I just love how she's a kid, trying to find her way to adulthood in a fantasy world, while dealing with an over protective father and a devil who tries to control her, and yet she still stays true to herself. I also love her sister.
I think I should just play each in sandboxes and see who might stick around.
Outside of this, started rewatching Iron Fist this weekend and yes, it still has problems, but I love how honestly good Danny is. He just doesn't know how to be an effective force for good.
