Mar. 27th, 2018 08:49 amIt's now been two years since I've had anything alcoholic to drink. I don't know if I'll never drink again, but it's nice not having it dominate my awareness and plans; i.e. can/should I drink this weekend? Had it been long enough since I last drank? Do I have the time to recover from feeling like crap tomorrow?
Finished a great book, which might be problematic. The book in question, Stray City by Chelesey Johnson, was about a lesbian who becomes pregnant and decides to keep the child. At least that's the conflict that carries throughout the book. The possible problematic elements are that she has a fling with a guy because she is lonely and feeling rejected by the lesbians she knows. I think the whole fling happened because the author wanted an accidental pregnancy without an assault/rape, so...To the author's credit, the main character stays true to her sense of self and sexual preference and doesn't "convert" though I wonder if having her discover she were bisexual might not have been less awkward. Still a great book which captures life in the late 90s rather well. It made me want to write a story about being a 20 something in mid-90s San Francisco.
I've also been reading the Pathfinder comics, which are fun. Definite would suggest if you like fantasy or D&D. In the first arc, the characters do tend to lean towards the stereotypical, but once you get deeper into the series they turn less cardboard. At least to me. There's also two queer characters, a rogue and a cleric!
I think I had more I wanted to write but I am forgetting what it was now.
Oh, I did remember I wanted to share the fact that Tom Waits has put together a playlist of 75 of his songs to introduce people to his music, from his entire catalog. I've been listening all morning and it's damn spiffy.
