Random fandom thoughts
Feb. 25th, 2019 12:23 pmWith spoilers for Gen: Lock (a Roosterteeth mech webseries) and Chamions (Marvel comic), so behind the cut.
Gen: Lock has an awesome gender fluid character, Valentina Romanyszyn, who is basically a Ukrainian sniper and presents as female. Up until the third episode (I think it's that episode), every indication is that she is female. She uses a female name, presents female and really seems to ID as female. In the third episode it's revealed she's gender fluid and thinks she might be shifting to male soon, having changed genders before. It's awesome to have such a casual confirmation of not only gender fluidity, but that the tech exists to switch back and forth.
Anyway, my gripe is that fandom is insisting on using gender neutral pronouns and using Val/entina when listing her name, despite the character expressing herself as female. I can see doing the gender neutral if the character ID'd that way, but she didn't. And when she shifts, she will be he.
Onto Champions. The last few issues, Viv has expressed interest in Riki Williams/Iron Heart, even going so far as to kiss her. All well and good, but Riki was not comfortable with the kiss and expressed this. (My poor baby,Viv.)
The gripe I have is people still are showing the ship as them being together and all, which I feel completely ignores Riki's feelings. Don't get me wrong, I like the ship, but only if Riki comes around.
OK, enough griping. I have Janelle Monáe's cover of Heroes in my head.
I also started Umbrella Academy this weekend, but only got about halfway through the first episode before my tablet ran out of power. Seems interesting and I mean to watch it.
News has it that the Disney+ Marvel shows will tie into the MCU officially. Not sure if that enough for me to keep wanting to play Sam.
I still need to write. I am so far behind.
