Idea for another story that hit me on my commute this morning.

New story idea….pulpy fantasy series, not sure if it’s Edgar Rice Burroughs, Robert Howard, or Michael Moorcock level of pulpy or not. (Will need to be very careful to avoid racist stereotypes, but that shouldn’t be too hard. (Honestly, it'd likely be more like Moorcock, as I love his stuff.)

Mostly have characters at this point…

a Halfling historian/archeologist that’s interested in cultures and ancient civilizations. Basic rogue adventurer type but rather than stealing items from “dungeons”, she makes detailed drawings of relics and such, and then has replicas made later so that she can study them and share with those who are interested.

In one of her previous adventures, she came across and made friends with a Lich. The Lich decided to come with her to see how the world has changed. Both prove to be very helpful to the other in educating and learning, both the past and modern world, as well as being invaluable support for the other. (Not sure but I'm getting a sense of a romance/pairing here?)

Not sure if the Lich is just a skull the halfling carries around or something more easily concealed.

I think the Lich is a woman as well. Or maybe they’ve been undead for so long they don’t really see gender in themself any longer? Or maybe never did?

Next character is a stable hand that left the stable to seek their fortune. Basically they were bribed by someone to leave the stables for nefarious purposes and ran off with the money, figuring rightly that the stable master would take the bribe if the stable boy stuck around. Not sure of gender. Might be a girl or a boy, if a girl she dresses practically in pants and such.

(Basically this character came into my head after reading the first book in the Black Company series when they pay a stable boy a gold coin to clear out for the afternoon so he wouldn’t get hurt in the ambush they had planned. I always wondered what became of the kid.)

Last character is an older, first born daughter of some minor nobility that never married. After her younger sisters married and began to show signs of pregnancy, she saw the writing on the wall and didn’t think she would enjoy being the free nanny, so she runs away. I’m thinking she’s always enjoyed reading and maps, has a good had at cartography, and maybe dabbled in magic.

(Kind of thinking something like Belle from Once Upon A Time.)

Not sure of what they do in the story or how they meet up. I’m tempted to have them find a flying ship, or maybe flying ships are common and the halfling has one?

Something like Spelljammer/Treasure Planet is tempted as well, which would open up a lot of ancient civilizations to play with, as well as aliens and their cultures.
