I got up super early today to get the dogs out for a walk. It was before sunup and it was super windy but it was a good walk. We did 2.8 miles and the dogs had a good time. I had hoped to walk around the lake nearby but the park gates were closed since the sun wasn't up yet, so we walked along the water way/storm surge/creak thing that is not closed off.

I saw what I am pretty sure was a heron in flight. The wings matched what I'd expect but the head and neck were shorter, which could have just been the bird pulling its head back except I don't know if they do that.

The dogs were also spooked by the new sounds such as the flap pole with the wire banging in the wind. I think this is their first big windy day. They got over it though and got back to their playful pulling selves.

It felt good to be out before other people. Not sure why I enjoy that time of the day but I do. And while it was chilly with the wind, it was nice to get a big walk in before my day really started.

They do pull their heads back! Or at least great blues do; they're the ones I've seen. They fly with their necks all tucked up in an S curve so the head's close to the body, and then their long legs trailing behind them. So that does sound like a very possible heron sighting to me!

Also, I meant to say on your other post, your dogs sound fantastic. :D
