Jun. 26th, 2007 12:21 pmNew music discovery...if you like post-punk and the works of Sue Jorge, Senor Coconut or Richard Cheese, I think you will love, Nouvelle Vague. A Forest really works with bongo drums...maybe a little too well.
Sunday night I introduced Katie to Dr. Suess' The Sleeping Book and Katya Arnold's Baba Yaga and the Little Girl (which is an simplified version of the tale Vasilissa the Beautiful). She has now twice asked me to reread the Baba Yaga...she also likes the Dr. Suess but the fact that my daughter likes a story about the Baba Yaga amuses me.
In addition, I read her a variation of the tale of Maria Morvena( or The Death of Koschei the Deathless), because it also has the Baga Yaga in it.
I've also read her the story of Sir Gawain and Lady Ragnell; just because I think Sir Gawain rocks and is the best knight of Arthur's bunch. Can you imagine any other knight knowing that is was Lady Ragnelle's right to chose her appearance and not his?
Both versions of the stories came from Ethel Johnston Phelps' The Maid of the North.
That's all...I know I had more to write but I can't remember it now...
