bjornwildeSo this evening I road my bike to Safeway to get dinner stuffs.
Halfway there, a little dog tried to blitzkrieg me. It kinda looked like this, http://www.akc.org/breeds/recbreeds/shipper.cfm, but had golden fur. Anyway, the manic pooch charged across four lanes of busy traffic to charge me. I saw it coming and since I didn't see it as a threat I stopped my bike so I could be a fixed target and keep it out of the street until it's owner showed up. She was running across the street right after it.
So I'm trying to keep the dogs attention and maybe get it to be friendly, but the owner shows up and starts yelling at the dog about how bad it is and all that. Didn't even acknowledge my presence. Now I understand being all worried and freaked out about your pet, but I made eye contact with her and said "See what happens when you don't pay attention?" when I lost my balence on my bike and had to get off it. Still no acknowledgement of my presence and still yelling at the dog.
Her yelling freaks out the dog even more than my trying to calm it down. It bolts for home, again across four lanes of traffic, and gets clipped by a SUV. Fortunately it wasn't really hit and was able to run all the way across the street to make it safely back home. It may have had its paw ran over but it seemed to have no trouble running on it. Course that may have been shock. I hope the owner woul dbe intellegent enough to take it to a Vet to make sure though.
Now what worries me is this...What if that had been a child? This woman had her hyperactive dog out in the front yard with no fence and no leash. She chased after it, good, and then proceeded to scare it enough that it ran into danger.
Nature selection is only natural. I accept that and honor it, but do I need to see such a graphic display?
