It's harvest time at the ol' homestead and we're having at least one friend over. We invited more but it was last minute so no one was really available. I've already juiced a bunch of fallen apples for about half a gallon of juice. The juice is nice and sweet without adding sugar but unfortunately my scheme of making hard cider is going to be limited to fallen fruit or moth damaged as the wife wants to let the stuff on the tree grow more. I've a 3 gallon carboy so no fermenting this weekend. Still the juice was good so I look forward to when I have enough.

Next are the Thompson seedless grapes. We'll be saving the leaves for fresh dolmas today as well.

A couple quick book recommendation for those who enjoy urban fantasy:
Mob Rules by Cameron Haley. You know how in a lot of urban fantasy the protagonist has to deal with criminal types or the plot skirts the edges of the criminal underworld? This book says screw it and jumps right in. The main character is an enforcer/fixer for a mob boss in LA and the action is nice and fast paced. The gangsta dialog (when present) doesn't read as forced and the world building is nice. Mostly centers around sorcerers but so far there have been one vampire, a piskie and other spirits. The surprise twist is nice as the books description doesn't give it away. I'm about halfway through and will be adding to my like shelf.

Witchling by Yasmine Galenorn. I liked this one though I put it down. The problem I had was it quickly dissolved into a paranormal romance and I'm just not into that. The writing was decent and the world building interesting. Sort of like Buffy or Angel but with fae instead of vampires. I'd recommend it if you like paranormal romance.
