Oct. 7th, 2011 08:09 amTerra Nova. I've caught the first two episodes and have to say I am enjoying it so far. I do see cracks though and I worry about the shows future. It's like the writers are trying to do too much and are depending on the dinosaurs to be the hook that keeps the viewer. So far the show is a military/scifi drama, a family drama, a teen drama, a cop drama, and a science drama. Next week's preview promises a medical drama as well. Still it has been fun so far, I just hope they start working with what they've created and stop adding new threads.
Raven's Gate by Anthony Horowitz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
This book was great. A thrilling ride that had me emotionally committed to the main character. All was great and thrilling until I got to the climax of the story and the villains were revealed to be witches. I rolled my eyes at the cliche but kept going based on how good the rest of the book was. Then it turned out the witches were satanic witches, complete with a black mass and inverted crosses. *groan*
Okay the supposed big bads in this book were from before history yet they use Christian imagery in the ritual to bring them into our world. Sorry no. The satanic cult scares of the 70s weren't fun then, they are not fun now. Your mileage may vary but I will not be picking up the rest of the series.

Awesome book! Thrills, creepiness, loveable characters and a great mystery that isn't given away within the first 100 pages. I haven't reached the end yet but I will definitely be picking up the sequel and any other books by the author.
A Discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness
My rating: 3 of 5 stars
I am liking this book so far. It's an urban fantasy with a similar tone to the movie "Practical Magic" with a hint of the scholarly thrill of "The Da Vinci Code". I'm only a few chapters in but I have high hopes for the book.
