Fever returned last night and was 103...needless to say I did not go to work today and am not feeling the best.
In other news, read that Full Metal Alchemist manga I mentioned before (which was vol 2) and OMG I so was not expecting the creepy and gore! Good stuff but I was so caught off guard. I was expecting action adventure based on the bits I had seen of the anime series.
Also all caught up on Grimm and I am loving that they are starting to get meta plots going! Still loving Monroe (I've never been one for the status quo) and the Asian beat cop whose name escapes me.
Okay more tea now.

Basic premise of the show is a police procedural with fantastic elements. Sort of like how Once Upon A Time is a soap opera/mystery with fantasy thrown in. The main character Nick is that last of the Grimm line and was raised no knowing about the fact that a) there are monsters that go bump in the night and b) his family hunts them and kills them.
The first ten episodes or so have been Nick trying to figure out his new life and keeping is separate from his personal life (i.e. fiance who is totally cool but I'll get to her in a minute) and professional life (seeing monsters when you're a cop tends to be seen as bad). Nick does meet one person who sort of bridges the two worlds by the name of Monroe.
Monroe is a bludbad, which are essentially the were-wolves of the Grimm monsters but more in line with the early wolfman that modern lycanthropes. He doesn't go crazy with full moons and isn't harmed by silver. He is also the main source of humor for the show which is very dry and sometimes dark. Think of him as a Mr. Rogers/Sylar (from Heroes) minus the creepy and psychotic. Unlike other bludbads, Monroe is trying to fit into human society and keeps his urges under control.
In the second half of the season things are beginning to unravel for Nick. His fiance has been attacked by a monster in their home (which she fought off by herself, rescuing Nick!), a conspiracy against Nick is forming with yuppie monsters while other working class monsters are watching his house in a "dare you to touch the porch" kind of way. And the conspiracy I mentioned is targeting Nick's partner to get to him.
Monroe got jumped last episode and told to stop helping the Grimm and stop rocking the status quo to which Monroe said screw that. He likes helping people and playing sick kick to a Grimm.
Two things I really enjoy about the show are how Nick's fiance is treated and the Asian cop I mentioned. Nick's fiance, Juliette, has been shown as this kind hearted veterinarian who is very supportive of Nick. After the attack, she's cautious but isn't overcome by fear. She's aware of the cars stalking their house and recently told Nick she wants to learn how to use a gun. I just love that she isn't a victim!
The Asian police guy, Sergent Wu, is pretty cool also. Most interaction with him occur at crime scenes and even though Nick and his partner are non-uniformed detectives, they ask him for permission to do anything at a crime scene. He is obviously in control of the crime scenes and well respected. He's also the show's Agent Coulson.
