So new headvoice is making me think about gender and how Cybertronians don't really have that function. So why then is Arcee female? Okay step back and look at the question/assumption, what makes Arcee read as female? Arcee's G1 form definitely had female curves but not her latest. Slender and spiky is not the providence of the female form alone. Her voice? Okay that reads as female. What say you Arcee? Why does your voice sound female?

A voice with a higher pitch carries farther on a battlefield with less volume.

Well, alrighty then.

BTW, in case you were wondering, Arcee will be next month if anything.

Heh. In the Milliways 2007 Bayverse, I had Arcee as female pretty much entirely because the 'bots were choosing human voices to replicate in conversation rather than purely electronically modulated ones. Arcee happened to decide that she liked the voice of Ofra Haza, an Israeli singer. That... was pretty much it.

Go right ahead. That reminds me, I need to get back to the Rise of the Fallen AU fic- I had Ratchet explain to an anthropologist at one point that Cybertronians don't treat gender the same way and that as far as social roles relating to the reproductive process went, they had roughly sixteen or seventeen different 'genders' by human standards, and it was a case of humans not having the language to reflect this accurately that made most of them refer to each other as 'he' and 'him' in Earth words.
