On my current book
Mar. 18th, 2014 11:26 am Not too sure if I've made a mistake or not with my current audiobook. The pacing is good, the story over all interesting but it is suffering in a few places. The world building is intriguing if a bit shallow; at times nothing more than an alteration of names. The writing is good but I can't help noticing when things are included that make me wonder if it moves the story or expands on the characters. The narration keeps seeming like someone reading a book to children as she reads along, not really bringing much emotion to the prose but speaking very clearly.
The biggest problem I am having is that the main character, or one of them I should say, is dancing on the edge of glorifying cutting. I am hopeful the author doesn't do this and figures out a way for the protagonist to access her prophetic abilities without cutting but I am doubtful. The character also reads as a barely altered River Tam.
Sticking with it for now since I bought it but I really hope things change.
