OK, am I the only one who missed where Ethan knew how to speak Latin? Also, how the hell did his saying that prayer work to exorcise the demon/devil? I would think, to quote Fright Night, “You’d need faith for that to work.”

Which has me thinking and speculating…what if Ethan was a priest at some point? Or at least spent some time around Catholics, perhaps time in a school?

Which leads to another thought, what if he is part-Native American and was taken during one of pacifications he was telling Victor about? Those children were taken to boarding school which were run my churches or missionaries I believe. The father we know of back in the US could be an adopted father.

Which makes me wonder even further, what if he was the son of a shaman? Maybe he worked closely with a priest when taken away from his tribe and so he is twice “holy” for a given value of such.

Or maybe he was a priest working with the Army during the Indian Wars and finally had seen too much?

Either way, I think he sees himself as damned but still wants to do well by the world.

I’m having my doubts about the werewolf thing as they’ve gone 7 episodes now with no clear sign of it. All we have is the wolf jaws before his appearance in the title sequence, the hand wound (which hasn’t been mentioned in a bit), and the weird thing with the wolves in the zoo.

I wonder though, when he looked out of Sir Malcolm’s window, there was an awfully large amber sphere in the sky. Granted it was out of focus, so it could have been a street light and not the moon. Additionally, an amber moon is usually only seen in warm weather and we know it is winter. But then again, this is the time when London suffered from a lot of air pollution, so the moon could very well be amber when seen through the fog.

And damn but is Brona going to be pissed at him this time. Disappearing for a week and leaving her St. Jude medallion behind?

There have been so many pointers to the werewolf-ness by now that I suspect it may be a red herring. The people behind that show seem to love playing with tropes and twisting things around.

Yes, the show owes us an explanation of how he did the exorcism, definitely!

Manner?

They have been good with not making shit up so far, so I have great hopes for the season finale.

I don't think they ever meant to say that sex corrupts women, they merely showed up that Victorian attitude. Just like Vanessa (or the entity possessing her) dropped the N-word only to completely denounce and call out all that colonialist racist shit of cheap late 19th century stories. I really like how they handle the contentious issues -- the way Dorian asks for consent, even from Brona, for example.

And that may have been the demon, of course. Or Amunet. All this Egyptomania -- but you can't have 19th century penny dreadfuls without any of it. Egypt is a total must.

Learning Latin was normal in school for much of the 19th and early 20th century but if there is an Indian background. Most Indian schools were run by missionaries as they wanted to save them, the Navajo schools were run by Catholics in particular. So lots of ways for him to learn Latin.
