Aug. 23rd, 2014 01:51 pm Lots to do around the house today but I wanted to mention I am delving into Blood and Iron again, which is proving challenging. This is all
varadia 's fault, as everytime I see her Michael, I go, "Hey, that canon looks really interesting."
So far I am having the same challenge as last time I tried to read it. I am curious about the story and mostly hooked, but the writing style tends to make my attention wander a bit, much like being pixie lead; which is fitting given the subject. I think it is the esoteric or abstract styled prose that creeps into descriptions of action and things. I am not saying this is a bad thing. Alan Moore had a habit of doing this with Promethia (can you imagine a Promethia in Milliways?) from time to time, where the story or scene gets so abstract, I am required to reread it slowly to catch what is going on.
I do see this as a good thing. It is like I am having to exercise my mind, which has gotten too used to literal plot lines and prose.

Date: 2014-08-23 11:04 pm (UTC)It is a hot mess of a canon, but the world-rules and a lot of the characters are interesting!
If Blood and Iron stymies you, try skipping to Whiskey and Water. I found that one more fun.

Date: 2014-08-24 12:52 am (UTC)I do find myself very curious about Whiskey and hope he becomes more of a character. Must be the kelpie lure. I'm also curious about Matthew, at least the glimpse I've seen so far.
Good to know the writing gets easier. = ]
