 Random thought, inspired by the new lightsaber in the Star War VI teaser, a basket hilt lightsaber where the hand guard is made or laced with cortosis (which shorts out lightsaber blades). Block your enemies saber and then twist your hand to short out their blade.

I might be thinking on how it could look for Quin's new sabers since I had already been playing with the idea of them have cortosis pommels.

I need to look into if the metal was an area effect or contact. I remember contact but best be safe.

ETA: And I just read the wookipedia article and it is on contact, so no shielding would be required for the lightsaber having a handguard of cortosis.

Nice! Odd that nobody seems to have thought of that trick before. :-D But Quin is extra sneaky and cunning. (And he could probably get some help from a particular Sith who has/will have a reputation for being sneaky.)

Cortosis is supposed to be a rare metal but most uses I've seen in books or comics is as a sword or gauntlets. QUintin actually wore a cortosis gauntlet during his Dark Adept days, which is why I am comfortable giving him access to the stuff. I doubt he would have gotten rid of it when he went back to being a Jedi.

*nods* No point in getting rid of something useful! If nothing else he could melt the gauntlet down to make the sword parts.

In theory, lightsabers with crossguards makes sense and given the number of Jedi and Sith with cybernetic hands, I'm surprised no one has thought of it before. Only problem is that saber from the trailer wouldn't guard against another lightsaber since the saber would hack off the plasma projector instead of hitting the plasma crossguard. Additionally, the user of that saber would be at risk if their hand slide along the hilt. Bad design all around.
