The Wife and I were confused as to why it had taken Ragnar so long to bury the old guy from the opening scene when they first showed the wrapped body. I am amazed they did it to be honest. I never would have expected him to die, he was so central to everything.

But wasn't it obvious that Floki did kill Athelstan?

It was but we were holding out that he had just brained him and he was unconscious not dead. Like he hit him with the flat of the axe or something.

Far too much dramatic build-up for that -- just rewatching it.
