Jan. 26th, 2016 01:55 pm Things I can never figure out, when do you capitalize the name of a race? For instance, "I was a guess at the Elven court" Do you do it if you are referring to specific member of the race? For instance, "The elf ran away with all my underwear."
I think I just figured it out. If you are referring to the collective species, then you capitalize it. If you are referring to a singular member or saying someone or thing looked "elvish" it is lowercase.
Right?
I guess I'm confused because we don't do this with "human".
Ok, some further research suggests it's more of if the use of the race is as a proper noun, then it would be capitalized. For instance my example of "Elven court" is capitalized because I am referring to a specific governing body. The elven race, wouldn't be capitalized because it is a collective noun. So I think I am correct in writing, "an ifrit sultan".
