Reading fantasy after doing the year of no white male authors is weird. I'm currently reading Karen Miller's The Innocent Mage and while it isn't badly written, I'm bored with the bland, generic English fantasy world; ala Tolkien or Robinhood. I do find the political intrigue/social challenges interesting though. The cover is weird too as it doesn't match the tone of the book so far. The cover features a very Aragorn type person and so far this is much more about bring social change to a monarchy that adventuring lone rangers.

It is also making me tempted to reread the Wheel of Time (which does different cultures damn well, imho) or the Elric saga.

I'm also listening to stand up comedy and noticing I have no tolerance for anything that scans as sexist or racist, which a lot of Robin Williams' stand up reads to me. YMMV of course. I still love the man, I just don't think his stand up works for me any longer.
