Pondering colors and Bunnhilde's white markings in Thor: Ragnarok and I came across this essay on the meaning of white in Norse culture. Which is causing odd ideas in my head for why Brunnhilde chose that color for her face paint.

And yes, I realize this is likely looking too deep into things. I also just realized I should look at what it means to the Maori, since Waiki used a lot of Maori elements and colors in the film.

Well, this says white is the physical world, and purity, harmony, enlightenment, and balance. No clues there, though I could make a reach for something very meta with the past aspects of Asgard revealed in the film. (Trying to be vague on purpose to avoid spoilers.)

If you want info about Maori culture, I recommend the Te Papa website, its the national museum of New Zealand and full of resources. I can hugely recommend the author of Whale Rider, he's Maori and a fantastic writer. His book The Matriarch is powerful and New Zealand. I can probably provide more from all my NZ stuff if I go looking including stories of the time I stayed for a week with an hones to god Maori matriarch and spent some time being a tourist and visiting in Rotorua.
