Oct. 3rd, 2007 10:49 amDonate to help schools and maybe even "win" Monterey Bay Aquarium T-Shirt, Socks, Hat, or other such thing, A vial of mud from the ocean floor at 3500m with a framed map and certificate of authenticity, the Bioluminescence Coloring Book (with glow-in-the-dark paint!) and the video Marine Bioluminescence: Secret Lights in the Sea
One of their targets is Charter School of Morgan Hill.
We are a project based learning school which means that students learn though hands on activities and active participation. Parent involvement is also very important to our school and parents come in regularly to assist with projects and activities.
Because we are a project-based learning school, we have NO TEXTBOOKS and teachers are responsible for creating interesting and challenging projects that meet state standards. This is a wonderful opportunity for teachers to use their creativity to engage student learning. I would love to include literature about oceans with our ocean unit, but do not have any books!
In order to complete this project, I am requesting 5 copies each of 8 book titles. These would be shared by 3 second grade classrooms. We would have the students read the books in small groups with a parent or teacher and then do an activity afterwards to show what they learned. This may include a book discussion, poster, short skit, etc.
You can help boost student interest in reading and learning more about oceans by supporting this proposal!
My project needs 5 copies each of 8 books about the ocean. The cost of this proposal is $435, which includes shipping for any materials requested and fulfillment.
I think it would be awesome to be able to give Katie a vial of mud from the ocean floor and help a school out at the same time.
