Nov. 21st, 2007 12:22 pmA while ago I commented to
laragoth that the costuming she has done is inspirational to me for making costumes for meh wee one. I mentioned that I had made a costume already and she asked for me to post a picture of it; so here we are.
The costume I made is Polly from Polly and the Pirates by
tednaifeh, an old friend of mine. The way it came about was that a friend's daughter was having a pirate themed birthday and of course my daughter can't just go in store bought right?
So off I ran to the fabric store and the internet to find what instructions I could for making a "pirate shirt". The instructions I found were bunk for children's size so I had to improvise. I also improvised and made the skirt without a pattern. Edited to add: I forgot adn should totally point out that my wife
zoe_me helped me figure out how to save the shirt from the bad directions I found online.
I have to say I am nervous about posting this (especially with two great costume makers,
laragoth and
dj_spider, on my friends list) as it really is not that well done or that complex of a costume. The shirt is not really the shirt Polly is wearing. And I never got around to making the ammo belt/sash thingy I can't remember the name of. Katie does have a nerf cutlass to go with it but this picture is all I have as I haven't taken the time to have her pose in the costume.
Anyway, enough self-deprecating; here it is, Katie as Polly-Anne Pringle, aka Peg Malloy, the Pirate Princess! Katie's the one on the left btw, the one on the right is a comic cover for reference. ; ]

I swear that the next comic convention
tednaifeh is at, Katie is going to show up in this costume. Maybe this way we can get him to write the next chapter of Polly and the Pirates!
