Expectations...

 10 year old going wharf fishing: chasing pigeons, eating junk food and feeding sea gulls while fish appear as if by magic.

44 year old going wharf fishing: buy bait, get snacks, set up poles, cast lines, keep lines from getting tangled or caught in seaweed or the wharf, maaaaybe catch something.

Of course the ten year old caught something (a sea bass too small to bother keeping) and I caught nothing. Well, that's not quite true, I got a pigeon caught in my line and had to unhook it.

We used to have a picture of the time my father went fishing with his brothers and somehow managed to catch a clam.

That is pretty impressive. She also almost got a pretty decent sized crab but it let go.
