At the beginning of the Sixth mission to be precise and I just have to say, does Jack ever catch a break? It's like the ultimate bait and switch story. Enjoyable but you keep rooting for the heroes because they just never seem to succeed. Plus it's amusing to see what disaster and last minute save the author is going to pull out of his hat.
ETA: Ah...now it becomes clear why Jack is always getting the rug pulled out from under him. Nicely done Mr. Reilly, nicely done.

But, yeah, either he has good enough editors to add those moments of backstory in, or else he did actually have an idea as to what the climax would be before he got there.
