OK, back tracking a bit on Force Collector. It is still a fun read, but like much of the recent SW books, it is laced with nostalgia instead of being something new.

Yeah, the new stuff that worked in it was looking at the propaganda around the Jedi and the ripple effects of that. But the rest of it couldn't seem to decide what it was and I was so disappointed that there was really no actual thought and questioning of the First Order and what they were saying. The world building and everything felt unbalanced but I did once I get into it, read it quickly. I think for me it ended up kind of like the movies, lots of good ideas, almost too many but no plan that holds them all together and certain characters get more care.

Yeah. It just feels like a novelization of "let us remind you of the cool places and things that have happened". I did like the characters and the original premise, i.e. discovering the Jedi, but they didn't seem interesting in pushing the boundaries or exploring how things were in the present, like the First Order as you mention.
